Fortunately, more and more people consider therapy as a tool to improve their quality of living, and the stigma of therapy is diminishing.  We know, though, that the decision to seek therapy services is still understandably difficult for many people to make.  We are sensitive to this and are committed to your privacy and confidentiality.

According to the American Psychological Association's (APA) ethics code and both state and federal laws, you should be aware of some limits to confidentiality:  No information can be released without your written or verbal consent, except in cases of child/elder abuse or where a person is a threat to their own or someone else’s safety.  Such instances may include, but are not limited to, instances where there is a threat to kill or injure another person, or a threat to commit suicide.  If you are involved in the court system, we may also need to release records of our therapy if there is a court-order to do so

Along the lines of confidentiality, if we run into you outside of the therapy office, we will maintain your privacy through non-acknowledgment unless you are the one to initiate contact with us.  Additionally, we make it a policy not to "friend" our clients through Facebook and similar online social sites.  For more information on the therapist-client relationship, visit APA's site on potential ethical violations.

We maintain a 24-hour cancellation policy since a scheduled appointment means that time is reserved only for you.  A late cancellation means that another client is unable to schedule within that block of time. If an appointment is missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged a fee of $100.  Insurance does not pay for sessions that were not attended, therefore the missed appointment/late cancellation fee of $100 is entirely the client's responsibility.

WE CARE DEEPLY ABOUT YOUR WELL-BEING AND SAFETY BUT ARE NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST IN CRISIS. THEREFORE, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU CALL 911 IN CASES OF EMERGENCY.
