Our Therapists

You are marvelously complex, and there is only one You. When you meet with a therapist at NVision You, all facets of your life will be considered.

  • Intrapersonal: your body, thoughts, and emotions

  • Interpersonal: your family, romantic partnerships, friends, work, and community

  • Transpersonal: your gender, culture, religious and spiritual beliefs, economic circumstances, generation in history, and aspirations)

We are all trained in a multi-systemic approach and do not view our clients through a one-dimensional lens or a “one size fits all” philosophy.

Monika Sharma, Psy.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Owner

Since watching the documentary, “Supersize Me,” I’ve developed a passion for holistic health and wellness.  When I watched the film, I was working in a therapeutic high school where nearly every student was on a cocktail of psychopharmaceutical medications.  I began to wonder…if we could detox these students from their prescription meds and from their alcohol/drug use, and ensure they had a proper night’s sleep, nutritious whole foods, affection, and warm guidance…would these students be in need of medication to stay focused, regulate their moods, and manage their behaviors?

Thus, I began a journey to learn more about healthy lifestyle behaviors and alternatives to a “quick fix” solution.  I believe we each have the power to heal ourselves rather than fall prey to too-good-to-be-true promises, become dependent on meds, or surrender our power to another person rather than learning to trust ourselves.

I graduated from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2000.  Since that time, I became certified as a holistic health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition at Columbia University's Teachers College, trained in hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and supervised clinical psychology doctoral students at the college counseling center of the International Academy of Design and Technology since its inception in 2004.  I have also taught graduate-level courses at Argosy University in Chicago and served on the Board of Directors for Apna Ghar (Our Home), a domestic violence agency in Chicago, and Indus Women Leaders, a national mentorship program for South Asian Women.

I am a fond believer in the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model for creating a rich and meaningful life.  In a nutshell, ACT integrates eastern and western philosophy to promote awareness of the present moment, open up and accept our experiences for what they are, and ACTively move toward a life of purpose without having to first change our thoughts and feelings.  In order words, ACT invites you to learn how you can live in the best version of yourself, even with challenging experiences, so you can actualize a life worth living!

NVision You, LLC, has been the culmination of my training and passion for personal power and vitality in life.  Envision all that you can be in your relationships, your health, your career, your future…NVision You!

At some point, everyone experiences problems they cannot resolve through their usual means of coping and problem-solving. These problems may interfere with relationships, work, family, or other responsibilities and cause feelings of sadness, fear, anger, or helplessness. You may feel stuck, like you have reached a wall and tried everything to move past it, and are unsure of what to do. I will help you move beyond that wall through helping you understand patterns in your relationships, thoughts, feelings, and actions and how they may limit your ability to adapt to difficult circumstances.

I am genuine, empathic, curious, and willing to broach difficult and complex issues and challenge you in supportive ways, to help you engage in your own growth and feel empowered to make the changes you seek. In a safe and nonjudgmental environment, I can provide feedback and help you practice communicating your needs and feelings.

Together, we'll explore your struggles in the context of your whole life: your self, family and significant relationships, work, culture, community, and social issues related to diversity, power, and privilege. I am committed to helping you use your strengths to heal yourself and move beyond that wall.

Specializes in:

Lauren Krpan, M.Ed., LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Throughout life’s journey, we are sometimes exposed to elements of challenge, suffering, anxiety, and pain. I value the therapeutic process because I understand that life is not an easy process. I believe that all individuals deserve to experience happiness and feel congruent with their true self.

My clinical experience has taught me to appreciate the importance of a holistic approach to counseling.  The body, mind, and spirit are exclusive constructs, but in fact work together to encompass who we are as our unique selves.  I believe that addressing our needs all-inclusively can truly change how we live in our world. I have a comprehensive approach that includes elements of CBT, ACT, as well as Mind-Body work with a focus on mindfulness, meditation, and breathing exercises.  I am also a registered yoga instructor, which deepens my appreciation for the mind-body-spirit connection.

I have a passion for counseling from a sex-positive approach and creating a secure and accepting space for clients to connect with their intimate values and full identity. I empower individuals to express their authentic selves by embracing all individuals and their sexual diversity surrounding concerns of sex, sexuality, and sexual identity.

At times we may feel stuck, unhappy, and isolated. I believe people do not need to endure these elements of their life alone or without some form of guidance. Together we will explore your concerns and begin the journey to your own personal healing process.

Specializes in:

  • Sexual orientation and gender identity (LGBTQI)

  • Sex and intimacy

  • Relationship issues

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Self esteem

  • Life transitions

  • Early adulthood

  • Mind-body work

Kayleen Pen, MA

“Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as being stuck somewhere you don’t belong.” You may feel stuck because of other people, because of life circumstances, or because of your own doubts, feelings, and stories you tell yourself.  What if you could be free from external obstacles? To be free from your fears? To create a life that belongs to you and live congruently with your values, your aspirations, and your vision of your best self?

My aim is to move you out of that place of pain and move you toward living freely. As your therapist, I will be a guide in this process, gently encouraging exploration, insight, and action toward your personally determined goals. “Sometimes when you lose your way, you find YOURSELF.”

My passion is helping Adult Third Culture Kids (ATCK):  individuals who have spent much of their childhood living in a culture outside their own. Questions like “where are you from?” are difficult to answer, and struggles with identity and grief are common. (Above quotes are from Mandy Hale, author.)

Specializes in:

  • Loneliness
  • Adult Third Culture Kids (ATCK)
  • Life Transitions
  • Relocation adjustment
  • Expat, Repatriation, and Immigration
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Mindfulness
